For bird-like freedom you need: Wings to Fly ltd

Wings to Fly ltd., teaches hang gliding by appointment on weekends and some evenings. Classes start in the morning, weather permitting, and most are conducted at Aerodrome Wes/Mar, 16067 London Road, Orient Ohio a private grass airfield about ½ hour south of Columbus near Darbyville. Most instruction is solo foot launch over level ground via a stationary winch scooter tow system. Students should dress for the weather. Running shoes or lightweight hiking boots are needed as well as long pants. Expect a few grass stains. You should also consider bringing water and food. When conditions permit, tandem Discovery flights are available.

During instruction you will learn how to safely fly a hang glider, including training protocol, glider assembly and disassembly, weather to fly, flight theory, preflight inspection, ground handling, launching, landing and in-flight control.

A full day session of foot launched flight instruction costs $150 and includes a USHPA 30 day affiliate membership. The training is sometimes divided into early morning and late afternoon sessions. A one half day session fee is $100. You will fly!

The Beginner Course – 3 full day training sessions, is $500 includes a USHPA 30 day affiliate membership and log book and training syllabus. Students should complete the USHPA Beginner or Hang 1 requirements and pass the written test.

The Novice Course – 8 full day training sessions, is $1250 includes a USHPA Pilot membership, magazine subscription, log book, and training syllabus. The course is designed to advance you from your first day through the Novice or Hang 2 level. Successful completion of this course will give you the skill, confidence, and certification to fly without direct instructor supervision.

The Beginner course fee can be applied toward the Novice course within a month of completion. All equipment for the training is provided. Course fees do not cover equipment damage.

Tandem aero towed Discovery flights: $140 and are subject to certain restrictions.

Winch towed tandem Discovery flights: $80 and are subject to certain restrictions.

Scooter tows: $5.00/tow - $25/day minimum fee for novice and higher rated pilots with their own equipment.

Equipment rental: Gliders- $25/day on site, $50 off site. Releases, Bridles, Harnesses, Helmets, Chutes, Instruments - $5ea/day on site, $10ea/day off site. Hanger space for glider storage - $5/mo. Technique Clinic: $50 - For rated pilots needing help with launching and landing skills.
